Sandy Bay
Sandy Bay viewed from the road along the central ridge near the Blue Hill
junction. The main drainage in the centre of the view is Broad Gut. The high point on the coast
to the left is Sandy Bay Barn (431 m).
The old fortifications in Sandy Bay actually pre-date the Napoleonic era; they were
built in 1742. The cannon platforms are large granite slabs which must have been imported from
England.
